Happy New Year! With each new year, we get new opportunities, yet we never seem to leave the old challenges behind.
When I was teaching, I recall a common struggle in these winter months was keeping the kids engaged and connected. It had been months since the team-building at the start of the year, and I was grinding away at the standards and everything I felt pressure “To get through.” Then there is the challenge of keeping things fresh and engaging. I had already given the kids my best stuff, what now? On top of all that, the schedule never seemed to stay the same. Assemblies. Conferences. Rallies. PD days. Testing. The daily schedule was always shifting, and I found myself with these little windows of time, 5 minutes here, 7 minutes there. I had time to spare, but as a teacher, we never have time to waste.
